What is Keep Writing Kidlit? It’s an interview series focused on pre-published picture book writers striving for traditional publication. These writers are not agented. They’re not published. They’re not self-published. Yet, they have SO MUCH wisdom to offer. They’re taking classes. They’re making connections. They’re learning about the publishing industry. They’re querying. Most importantly, they’re NOT giving up.
Who am I? My name is Megan McNamara, and I’m a pre-agented, pre-published picture book writer. As a kid, I thought I’d grow up to write books… but, as a teenager, I discovered writing for television. (Mostly by watching and dissecting every episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.) This led me to enroll at Ithaca College and study scriptwriting! It’s been quite the journey and, thus far, I’ve written episodes of Bones, Rosewood, and LA’s Finest. I was most recently staffed on All American: Homecoming for the CW. In 2017, I finally returned to my first love — books — and started seriously studying the craft of writing for children. I hope this blog fosters community for writers who aren’t beginners, but who aren’t agented or published either. I know this subset of writers is immensely talented, and I want to showcase that so we can help each other get to the next level.
Thanks for being here!
